Superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegnefuss told Salisbury Townshp School District board members at the April 13 meeting community outreach continues to be a priority.

During the month of April, the district is administering a school district climate surveys to all staff, students, parents and community members.

Ziegenfuss said the survey is designed to collect data on perceptions of each of these groups about the culture and climate of each school and the district.

The surveys for all groups can be accessed at http://paschoolclimatesurvey.org. Once on the page, the user should click the link at the top of the page to enter the following invitation code representing their role: parent – 6L7TEC and community member – KD2Q1S.

The public visioning sessions are wrapping up and a report will be provided to the board at the May 23 curriculum meeting at the administration building.

RCN has placed the fiber cable to give the Salisbury School District its own channel which should be fully functioning at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

“All buildings will be able to provide live streaming from events such as performances, meetings and lectures,” Ziegenfuss said. In addition, staff will receive training on copyright information and policies before the channel is operational. Ziegenfuss said this is another way for the district to connect with the community.

Also available for the community is a series of podcasts by various authors and interviews with Ted Dintersmith, “Most Likely to Succeed,” Aaron Sams, Jessica Lehey, “The Gift of Failure,” Anya Kamenetz, “The Test” and Kelly Young, “Education Reimagined.” There is no charge to access the podcasts on TLTalkRadio.org.

Other community involvement, according to Ziegenfuss, includes Wells Fargo employees reading to students, members of the Salisbury Township Police Department and Salisbury Township Commissioners being mystery readers and continued meetings with school district administrators and commissioners, Lehigh Valley Health Network, state representatives and the police department.

Also working with Salisbury is the Allentown Public Library, as reported by resident Norma Cusick.

Cusick said 17 residents participated in the adult winter reading program. APL now has local museum passes available for adult library patrons in good standing to check out for one week. The passes include the DaVinci Science Center, Allentown Art Museum, America on Wheels and Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum. Residents should check the website www.allentownpl.org for ongoing programs and services.

The Salisbury Education Foundation will provide two scholarships which will be announced at the academic and service awards program 7 p.m. May 31 at Salisbury High School. Students can find out more information about the scholarships from the guidance office.
