Volunteers needed for park events

Ontelaunee Park in Lynn Township has nine events booked so far this year.

Farm Fest will take place 11 a.m. April 30 followed by a Crazy Heart concert 2-5 p.m. May 8.

Other events include the ninth annual Pow-Wow May 13-15, the Northwestern Lehigh Education Foundation 5K Run May 28, Music in the Park, with School of Rock, on June 12, the eighth annual Car and Motorcycle Show July 10, Scott Marshall Band on July 31, Praise in the Park on Aug. 28 and the Large Flowerheads performance on Sept. 25.

Volunteers are still needed for these events.

In other matters at the Lynn supervisors’ April 14 meeting, New Tripoli Fire Chief Peter Christ reported volunteer firefighters responded to 56 calls so far this year.

Upcoming classes include a MedEvac class on April 26 and a HazMat Awareness class on May 16.

The annual chicken barbecue will be on Father’s Day, June 19.

Christ also noted the committee meetings on the fire study report are moving forward.

A fire company management software package will be purchased for use by the fire companies.

The cost for the hardware and software is $6,380.20 for the current year.

The KMS final plan was before supervisors for approval.

Scot Dietrich of Beitler Surveying presented the plan for a 32,250-square-foot warehouse building is proposed for the east side of Route 309, north of New Tripoli.

The board approved the plan contingent on Keystone Engineering’s letter.

Cetronia Ambulance Corps, represented by Larry Wiersch, reported 366 calls in their first year of being stationed in Lynn Township.

Of these, 308 were transport to an emergency room.

The ambulance corps is now in the second year of a three-year contract.

Fundraisers are proposed for the corps, including a 5K race and a golf tournament in September at Olde Homestead Golf Course.

Roadmaster Bruce Raber had the road crew busy cleaning gutters and shoulders on the township roads.

They also hauled scrap, fixed signs, swept some roads and did some cold patching.

Gregory Schaeffer was hired to be the newest full-time member of the road crew. He replaces Joe Howard.

The board decided to have cardboard pickup at the transfer station every other week instead of weekly.

Supervisor Brian Dietrich made mention of a problem at the station with refuse blowing around and littering the area.

He suggested a fence be installed to catch the flying debris.

April 28 has been scheduled as the date for the annual road inspection by supervisors.

Emergency Management Coordinator Kevin Baer told the board he is updating the township’s emergency management plan.
