New Tripoli man killed when SUV crashes into South Whitehall Twp home

A 20-year-old New Tripoli man was killed when the 2006 Dodge Durango SUV he was in struck a parked car then the attached garage of a house and caught fire around 3:35 a.m. April 12 at 1254 N. 27th St., South Whitehall Township.

According to the Lehigh County assessment records, the home is owned by Thomas J. and Theresa M. Wenck.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said John Delaney Murray of 7109 Donats Peak Road was pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m. the same day by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Craig Hanzl.

Grim said an autopsy was scheduled to be performed April 13 to determine the exact cause of his death.

Murray was ejected from the vehicle, Grim said.

According to South Whitehall Township Police Chief John Christman, Cassandra Sullivan, 19, of the 1200 block of N. 26th St., South Whitehall, also an occupant in the SUV, was transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He said her injuries were not life-threatening. A Lehigh Valley Hospital spokesperson told The Press April 12 that she could not confirm if Sullivan was transported to LVHN.

According to Christman, the SUV was traveling east on West Fairmont Street when it struck the parked car, and rolled over before ending up in the driveway and catching fire.

Christman said the cause of the crash and who was driving remains under investigation. He said the SUV is owned by Heather Seifert, who lives at the same address as Sullivan.

The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance to the family of five who live at 1254 N. 27th St., Loa Esquilin Garcia, regional communication manager for Red Cross, emailed The Press. Garcia said the Red Cross will continue to work with the family to assess any other needs they may have.

Volunteer firefighters from Woodlawn, Greenawalds, Tri-Clover, Cetronia and Western Salisbury fire departments, along with Rapid Response Inc., from Northampton, assisted at the scene.
