Borough manager receives award
Borough Manager Shane Pepe was honored with the Borough Manager of the Year award by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce at the Lehigh Valley Mayors’ and Municipal Officials’ annual reception March 29 at ArtsQuest SteelStacks in Bethlehem.
Council President Brent Labenberg said this was a well-deserved award at the April 4 Emmaus Borough Council meeting.
“We’ve known this for four years; it’s just nice the Valley gets to find out about Shane also.”
Pepe told council the borough is eligible for a reimbursement for the emergency snow removal from the colossal storm that hit the area in January.
Pepe said the borough qualified for just over $49,000.
“We’re eligible for the full amount for the contracted service for snow removal and we’re eligible for the most expensive two days which would have been that weekend,” Pepe said.
Pepe said, however, they shouldn’t count on receiving the full amount.
“You know, if we got half... that’s a major relief,” Pepe said.
Council President Brent Labenberg noted even if the borough got half of the amount, they would be “under budget.”
Resolution 2016-11 was approved, which will allow a subdivision on the property at 231 S. Second St.
The property, owned by David and Melinda Cope, will be split into three lots. The upper end is currently a vacant area which will be split into two, which will then house a twin home with driveways exiting out onto Second Street. There is already an existing residential home on the lower end of the lot, which is the third lot.
Ordinance 1137 passed its final reading, which will allow the recreation and entertainment commissions to combine to form one unit.
Ordinance 1138 also passed, which will extend the bus parking zone by the Seven Generations Charter School by an additional 120 feet.
Council unanimously approved the “Kick-Off to Summer” event which will be held June 5.
