Junior Gabe Castano made Allentown Central Catholic High School history at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state swim meet March 19 and 20, becoming the first Viking to win a state championship in swimming with his gold in the 50 freestyle race.

In other accomplishments, Central Catholic placed first in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Model United Nations competition held at Lehigh University March 18. Students became delegates for a day, representing a country as mock debates were held over current world crises and ways to solve them. Nearly 100 delegates from Central Catholic competed, the most from any school, winning a total of 15 medals.

Prom tickets will be available until March 31. There is a cost and payment must be turned in with the appropriate forms. Tickets will be distributed to parents only after both the parent and student have attended the drug and alcohol awareness program. The date and time of the program will be announced.

The third quarter ends April 1 and the fourth marking period begins April 4.

Allentown Central Catholic’s spring musical, “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” opens March 31 and runs through April 2. Originally debuting on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella follows the classic fairytale of a girl, played by Abby Garza, ruled by her wicked stepmother, played by Gianna Grigalonis and evil stepsisters, played by Jocelyn Lengen and Lily Mello, whose life is changed forever one night with the help of her fairy godmother, played by Amanda Giamalis, when she falls in love with a handsome prince, played by Evan Shimkanon, at the ball.

The musical is directed by Kateri Verenna and choreographed by Adrienne Motley. Vocal director is Hunter Chadeayne, pit orchestra conductor is Rebecca Ruth and stage manager is Renee Serencsits.
