Lehigh County commissioners appoint three to boards, authority

Lehigh County commissioners voted to fill three authority and board positions during their March 9 meeting.

Kevin Baker, of Lower Macungie Township, was appointed to serve on the Lehigh County Authority.

His term will expire Dec. 31, 2020.

Paul Semmel, of North Whitehall Township, was named to serve on the Lehigh County Conservation District board. Semmel’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2017.

Vicky Kistler, of Whitehall Township, will serve on the Lehigh County Office of Children and Youth Services Advisory Board.

Her term will expire Dec. 31, 2017.

Commissioner Geoff Brace provided a brief overview of Semmel and Kistler prior to their appointments.

Semmel, Brace said, previously served as state Representative for the 187th Legislative District.

An area farmer, Semmel expressed an interest in serving on the conservation district, Brace said.

“Mr. Semmel is no stranger to the board of commissioners and no stranger to the agricultural community,” Brace said.

According to Brace, the County Conservation District Act mandates an open seat on the conservation district board be filled by a farmer.

Kistler is director of Allentown’s Health Bureau.

“She comes with a positive recommendation,” Brace said.
