Education Foundation moves forward, selects logo

At the March 14 meeting of the East Penn School District Board of Directors, EPSD Education Foundation President Sal Verrastro announced the winner of the logo contest for the Foundation.

Verrastro said 11 impressive submissions were received from EPSD students.

After careful consideration, senior Xiang Luo’s logo was chosen.

Luo created the logo keeping science, technology, engineering, arts and math in mind.

“I wanted to combine arts and science and find one similar idea.” Luo said. “Combining arts, science and math equals creative thinking. I used The Thinker to connect the logo to fine arts– to add the idea of deep thinking.” Luo added the gears to tie “STEAM” to deep thinking. “The Thinker” is a sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin.

The new logo will promote the Foundation’s mission, “to enrich, extend and deepen the educational experiences of East Penn School District students with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.”

The Foundation will achieve its mission by financially supporting teacher grants, new programs and educational resources that develop critical thinking, creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills in the critical areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

The EPSD Education Foundation has recently elected a board of directors comprised of parents, community members, teachers, administrators, and local business professionals. The district has extended its deepest gratitude to the Foundation Directors who have worked tirelessly to make the Foundation a reality, including President Sal Verrastro, Vice President Stacey Galiardo, Secretary Jill Killo, Treasurer John Zayaitz, Dr. Ken Bacher, Dr. Julia Kibelbek, Dr. Stan Landis, Rodd Luckenbill, Karen Gennaro, Laura Groh, Dr. Michael Schilder, Heather Slatoff, Tom Wallitsch, Stephen Zakos, Rev. Wally Vinovskis and Dr. Ann Zayaitz.

The Foundation will be in need of many community members to support its success through volunteering their time, expertise and talents. Using these strong community assets will enable them to raise the funds needed to support the innovative educational STEAM programs in the district.
