SEF awards grants

The Salisbury Education Foundation has awarded mini-grants for the 2015-2016 school year which were announced at the Feb. 29 curriculum and technology meeting.

Dave Beyer and Barb Jaindl received a grant to help students expand their computer programming skills by learning to program robots. Students are currently programming Spheros through iPads in Digital Aces.

Susan Wilson received a grant to purchase equipment to measure particles and precipitate suspended in solution in Investigation 13 Enzymes of the AP biology curriculum as well as other laboratories in various science clsses at the high school level. This equipment operates with a graphical analysis application so students can access data on their phones and laptops and send and receive data.

Angela Shaffer received a grant to purchase a chapter book for each student to read in both the classroom and at home with their family.

Teachers Kathy DeBona and Chris Adams and fifth grade students at Western Salisbury Elementary School received a grant to help pay for a gaga ball pit for the school.

Matt Tobias received a grant to provide a four-day summer camp for students to utilize some of the skills necessary to succeed in making a specific product. Students will construct bean bag boards, sew the bags and paint the boards and will be able to take home the finished product.

Margaret McGinty received a grant to allow students to create a documentary with a Go Pro about the garden project including improvements, planning, design, implementation and the whole/organic food-to-table preparation and sharing of food with the current SHS community.

The Salisbury Education Foundation’s focus is to provide funds for programs “that enhance the educational experience to help students live up to the Salisbury Township School District vision to Inspire, Think Learn, Grow...Together.” The foundation was formed in 1998.

New members are sought to continue to support the educational enrichment and enhancement of programs for the benefit of the students.

Those interested in getting involved are asked to attend the next meeting 7 p.m. March 22 in the library at Salisbury High School.
