Congratulations PIAA District XI champions

On March 5, the Allentown Central Catholic High School swim team triumphed at the PIAA District XI championship. The girls team placed third, while the boys became district champions for the second straight year.

Junior Gabe Castano also won the Dennis McGinley award for most points by a male swimmer in the meet. Five of Central’s swimmers, as well as two alternates, will travel to the state meet at Bucknell this weekend.

In another winter sports final, seniors Keegan Connelly and Joseph Gladish represented ACCHS at the state wrestling meet this past weekend.

The conclusion of winter sports leads straight into the spring season; track, lacrosse, baseball, softball and boys tennis began tryouts and practices March 7.

On the academic front, the Science Olympiad team will compete at states March 22 and 23 in Altoona after placing third at the regional competition at Kutztown University. Students from 29 high schools competed at the regional level in approximately 25 different science and engineering events.

Sophomore Student Council will host a St. Patrick’s Day Dress Down Day March 17. Students will donate a small fee to wear festive green. Collection will be taken during homeroom or dropped off to Mrs. Schanta in Room 1.

St. Thomas More needs volunteers for its annual Easter Egg hunt 9:30 a.m. to noon March 19. See Ms. Langsdorf in Room 105 to sign up. Space is limited.

A financial aid parent meeting is scheduled 4 to 6 p.m. March 29 in Room 206. There is an application fee. Parents will receive assistance on completing the FACTS Financial Aid application. For additional information and to learn what is needed for the meeting, visit www.acchs.info,

ACCHS yearbook orders are due April 1. Download order form and return with payment to Miss Belletiere in Room 103. Cash or check only; payable to ACCHS.

Students interested in being a student trainer for boys or girls lacrosse teams should sign up in the training room. Students will need to get a ride or drive to practices and games.

ACCHS presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella – The Enchanted Edition” 7 p.m. March 31 and April 1 and 2 and 7 p.m. April 2. There is adult, student and seniors ticket pricing. Tickets are selling fast; order online now for best seat selection. See Mrs. Motley in Room 306 with questions.

ACCHS will be closed for the Easter holiday March 24, 25 and 28.
