Camp Cadet accepting applications

State Police Troop M Camp Cadet is now accepting applications for the free June 12-17, overnight camp at Camp Fowler, Orefield.

This year 100 cadets will be selected to have a first hand opportunity to experience what it takes to become a law enforcement officer.

The camp is designed to bring a better understanding to youth, about the law enforcement profession while living in an atmosphere of an actual State Police Training Academy. This camp is funded solely by donations from area police, civic, private citizens and business groups.

Blocks of instruction and demonstrations will be presented by Pa. State Police Firearms Instructors, Forensic Services Unit, Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) PSP and Whitehall Township K-9s, patrol troopers and the Aviation Unit helicopter.

Additional instruction and demonstrations will be conducted by: University MedEvac, Moore Township and Bethlehem police departments, Bethlehem City Police Department Bike Unit, Karate demos, and Lehigh County Crime Victims Council, Lehigh and Northampton County coroners, Tri-Clover Fire and Rescue, the FBI, U.S. Secret Services and Allentown SWAT.

Cadets will also be involved in competitive sports including softball, basketball, rifle, soccer and flag football.

Trophies are given to the champions at the graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. on June 17.

Camp Cadet counselors are comprised of law enforcement personnel from State Police Troop M, Liquor Enforcement officer and local police departments including Whitehall and Lehigh townships, and various civilian police personnel.
