Salisbury swimmers head to states

Several Salisbury swimmers will compete in this weekend’s PIAA Class 2A Championships at Bucknell University.

Salisbury junior Mahlon Reihman is the top seed in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.05.

He is also seeded first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.05.

Reihman returns to states for the third year. Last season he came home with a gold in the 200 and silver in the 100. He’s not only looking for more gold, but after last week’s district and pool record swim in the 200 at Parkland High School, he decided to set his sights on the state record of 1:38.35, set in 2008 by Shady Side Academy’s Trevor Sheid.

“It’s exciting knowing that I have more to drop when I fully taper and fully shave for states,” Reihman said at last week’s district meet. “I didn’t shave and taper coming into the district meet last year either, but I was much faster in the same circumstances this year as I was then. I’m excited to see what I can put up at states.”

His goals are to “walk away with gold in both. This is kind of a stretch, but the 200 free state record might be 1:38.7. I think if I taper well, get a good shave and rest it’s in my reach.”

Fellow Falcon junior Daniel Bonge is seeded seventh in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.60. He is also seeded 13th in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.40.

The Salisbury boys 400-yard freestyle relay team of Reihman, Bonge, Timothy Sechler-Stone and Ben Wiener is seeded 18th at 3:22.61.

Salisbury will also have two divers competing for the boys team. Junior Tyler Keller is seeded fifth, while senior Danny Bujcs is the ninth seed.

Keller will look for another trip to the medal stand after finishing sixth in the state last season.
