New stop signs planned

If approved, new stop signs will be placed at 11 intersections in Salisbury Township.

Consideration of an ordinance to approve placement of the stop signs is expected to be on the agenda of the 7 p.m. March 10 township board of commissioners’ meeting.

“They’re being put up where people would normally stop anyway,” Salisbury Township Police Chief Allen W. Stiles explained to commissioners at the Feb. 25 workshop when the ordinance to install the stop signs was discussed.

“These streets are on the west side and most are at the end of cul de sacs,” Stiles said.

If approved, the ordinance stipulates the following intersections where stops signs would be placed, listed in the order of:

“Stop Street,” “Intersecting or Through Street” and “Direction of Travel.”

•Sherwood Circle, Sherwood Road, East

•Yorkshire Circle, Yorkshire Road, East

•Bishop Road, Yorkshire Road, East

•Little John Lane, Greenwood Road, South

•Mocking Bird Court, Andrea Drive, West

•Sweetbriar Court, Bridle Path Road, West

•Hampton Court, Hawthorne Road, East

•Louise Court, Louise Lane, West

•Olivia Circle, Belford Road, North

•Coventry Circle, Hampstead Road, South

•Cardinal Drive, Public Road, East and West

The ordinance would amend Section 214 of Chapter 15, Part 2, “Traffic Regulations,” of the township code of ordinances.

“They [the intersections] were looked at by our public safety committee and recommended,” Stiles said.

Stiles said motorists who do not adhere to the new stop signs will be given warnings by township police officers for the first 30 days after the signs are installed.

The township public works department will install the stop signs if approved.

The timetable for installing the stop signs was not immediately available.
