Easter egg hunts planned

Spring is coming! The first day of spring is March 20 and Easter, which is early this year, is March 27 (the date of Easter is always set by the lunar calendar – the first Sunday after the first full moon after March 21). Check your church newsletters or websites for the special services around this most holy holiday.

And of course Easter always means Easter egg hunts. There will be an Easter egg hunt March 26 in Vera Cruz, sponsored by the Vera Cruz Community Association. It begins promptly 1 p.m. at Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East.

All children up to age 12 are invited to participate. Special prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 610 967-5432.

The Lower Milford Volunteer Fire Co. #1 will host an Easter egg hunt sponsored by Lehigh Valley Martial Arts 1 p.m. March 12. Come and find the “Golden Eggs” throughout which contain free trial memberships. Children of all ages are welcome.

St. Peter’s Union Church will hold its spring bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19 at the church, 7863 St. Peter’s Road, Macungie. There will be raffles, craft tables and food. There will be a light lunch served, to eat in or to go, lots of baked goods and soups.

Ensure you get your favorite soup by ordering in advance by March 11. Quarts of chicken pot pie, vegetable beef or chicken corn noodle soup can be ordered. Call Ron at 610-845-2525 during the day or Deb at 610-367-8307 in the evening to place an order. Other soups, including turkey barbecue, ham and bean or pepper cabbage are available in limited quantities, first come, first served.

The snow date (yes, we often have snow in March) for soup pickup is 10 to 11:30 a.m. March 20.

Joint Lenten meals and services with Huffs Church continue this month at St. Peter’s. Meals are 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. service. Services will be at Huffs March 2 and 16 and at St. Peter’s March 9.

The Upper Milford Youth Association will hold two open volleyball sessions at Victory Valley 6 to 8 p.m. March 9 and 21. These sessions are free and are open to the first 25 registrants (each session must be registered separately). These are instructional sessions and open to both boys and girls. The Upper Milford Fire Company ladies auxiliary has changed its regular meeting date. It now meets 7 p.m. the first Monday of the month. The next meeting is March 7. New members are always welcome.

Upper Milford Western District Fire Company will serve breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 6 and April 3. There are senior, adult and children’s prices. For information, call the fire company at 610-966-3541 or Carol Shade at 610-966-3902.

The quarterly meeting of the Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will be held 7 p.m. March 29 in the Upper Milford Township building. After a short business meeting, a speaker from the Boyertown Area Historical Society will talk about the 1908 ?re at the Rhoads Opera House in Boyertown. Some 170 residents of the Boyertown area lost their lives in this horri?c ?re. Refreshments will be served. Guests are always welcome. Visit hivelunddahl.com.

The Upper Milford Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. March 31 in the township building. David Venditta, author of “War Stories in Their Own Words” and a writer for the Morning Call, will talk about his interviews and documentations of the personal stories of America’s war veterans. Everyone is always welcome and veterans are particularly encouraged to attend this meeting. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact President Neil Moser at 610-966-4376.

Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. March 3 and 17 at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.

Upper Milford supervisors will meet 7 p.m. March 3 and 17.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m. March 28 in Upper Milford.

The Upper Milford Planning Commission meets 7:30 p.m. April 4.

The recreation commission meets 7:30 p.m. March 21.

Lower Milford Township Board of Supervisors will meet 7:30 p.m. March 16 in the township building.
