Wun “The Shot” Versher surprised patients with a visit to Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Feb. 24, displaying his legendary ball handling tricks, posing for photos and signing autographs.

Versher has been a member of the Harlem Globetrotters for 21 years.

He was in town to promote the upcoming family show March 2 at the PPL Center during the 90th Anniversary World Tour. PPL Center said “the game will showcase incredible ball handling wizardry, rim-rattling dunks, trick shots, hilarious comedy and unequaled fan interaction.”

Versher said he got the name “The Shot” when the owner said loved the way Versher shot the ball and nicknamed him “The Shot.”

“This is our 90th season and just to be a part of such a rich history and what the older guys like Meadowlark Lemon and Fred “Curly” Neal have gone through to bring it to this point, it is really an honor,” Versher said.

Versher said getting the opportunity to visit hospitals and visit kids and put a smile on their faces is very important to him. He said parents love the Harlem Globetrotters and are now introducing their children to the team.

“It’s an easy job, Versher said. “It’s not a job at all– it is a lot of fun.”

Versher said the best part of being a member of the Harlem Globetrotters is going out and touching someone’s life like visiting children in hospitals. “I can go to bed and say, ‘Hey I did a really good thing today and made someone smile.’”

In addition to Versher, members of the team include Big Easy Lofton, Ant Atkinson, Hi-Lite Bruton, Thunder Law, Bull Bullard and Cheese Chisholm. Female stars TNT Maddox and Sweet J Ekworomadu also participate in some events.

Tickets are still available for the March 2 show online at PPLCenter.com or by calling 610-347-TIXX.
