Scholar athletes named

The 56th annual Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Banquet will be held Sunday, March 6, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Northampton Community Center.

This year’s guest speaker is former Whitehall, Penn State and NFL player Matt Millen, who is now a television sports analyst.

HIGH SCHOOL

Allen - Wilberto Anibal Sicard

A 5-11, 185-pound linebacker and guard, he ranks 23 out of 610 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He participates in varsity wrestling, the school newspaper, SADD, Odyssey of the Mind, Scholastic Scrimmage, the EPC Student Athletic Character Council, and serves as school board student representative. He volunteers with the NJROTC Color Guard and Electronic Entertainment Enthusiasts.

Central Catholic

Joseph Matthew Milano

A 5-10, 200-pound middle linebacker and fullback, he ranks 24 out of 190 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in the American Red Cross Club, Key Club, power lifting team, and was named defensive MVP for football. His community activities include volunteering for football camp, Central City Project Tutoring, and he is active in his church.

Bangor - Cam Strohe

A 6-2, 215-pound tight end and linebacker, he ranks 48 out of 244 students. He is an honor roll student and a class officer in both the junior and senior cabinets. He participates in varsity basketball and track, and is a member of the SADD and Spanish Honor Society. He volunteers with Special Olympics, Toys for Tots, Relay for Life, Christmas caroling at a nursing home, youth sports clinics and is active in his church with VBS.

Bethlehem Catholic

Brandon - Michael Blobe

A 6-3, 215-pound defensive end, he ranks 27 out of 177 students. He is an honor roll student, National Honor Society member, and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity wrestling, is a member of the school newspaper staff, the ECO Club, and the chess club. He volunteers with the St. Anne-s Elementary mentor program.

Catasauqua - Cristian J. Burker

A 6-2, 170-pound quarterback, he ranks 20 out of 106 students. He is an honor roll student and football team captain. He is president of the Varsity -C- Club and participates in varsity basketball and track. He is active in his church as an altar server, volunteers with Toys for Tots, and the Sage Stauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament. He also plays piano.

Dieruff - Tariq Jarrah

A 5-10, 172-pound running back and safety, he ranks seventh out of 432 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the EPC Student Athletic Character Council. He serves as the student athlete school board representative and serves The AthLife Foundation as a representative. He is active in his community.

East Stroudsburg N.

Sean J. Beyrouthy

A 6-1, 216-pound guard and middle linebacker, he ranks 17 out of 294 students. He is an honor roll student and ranks in the top ten percent of his class. He volunteers with Special Olympics and doing yard work for the elderly. His community activities include the Bushkill Field Day and the Bushkill, Read Across Campus, Program.

East Stroudsburg S

Zachary David Timko

A 6-5, 285-pound offensive and defensive tackle, he ranks 40 out of 350 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He participates in varsity baseball. He volunteers with Special Olympics, the American Red Cross Blood Drive, Relay for Life, the Salvation Army Food and Toy Drive, and is active in his church.

Easton - Trey Anthony Durrah

A 5-10, 174-pound quarterback, he ranks 154 out of 655 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He participates in varsity basketball and baseball, and is a yearbook staff member. He is active serving in the community.

Salvatore Francesco Pagano

A 5-9, 205-pound fullback and middle linebacker, he ranks 22 out of 618 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and earned second team all-conference honors. He is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, the Earth Watch Club, and the principal’s honor roll. He serves as a youth and powder puff football coach, and was selected to his school’s homecoming court.

Jonah Andrew Gundrum

A 6-3, 175-pound wide receiver and defensive back, he ranks 35 out of 468 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and earned second team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity basketball and baseball, and is a yearbook staff member. He is active serving his church, which includes various mission trips.

Jim Thorpe - Dean Richards

A 6-0, 195-pound quarterback, he ranks 19 out of 119 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and is student government president. He is a student Rotarian and member of the school wide positive behavior program. His community activities include serving as a youth basketball assistant coach, and he is active in his church as an altar server and church lector.

Tegan Matthew Durishin

A 5-10, 155-pound wide receiver and strong safety, he ranks eighth out of 166 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity wrestling and tennis, and was selected to play in the Schuylkill League All-Star Game. He volunteers with a youth football camp and his church’s community breakfasts.

Liberty - Brian D. Bicknese

A 6-2, 295-pound offensive tackle, he ranks 33 out of 615 students. He is an honor roll student and ranks in the top-five percent of his class. He is a member of the weightlifting club. He is also active in the community.

Nazareth - Nicholas Redman

A 5-11, 225-pound offensive tackle and defensive end, he ranks 13 out of 391 students. He is an honor roll student and ranks in the top-five percent of his class. He participates in varsity track and is a member of the Technology Student Association. His community activities include volunteering for the Relay for Life program.

Northampton

David Matthew Rehrig

A 6-1, 200-pound guard, middle linebacker, and defensive end, he ranks 54 out of 404 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and class officer in the student government. He is a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions and DECA organizations. His community activities include volunteering with the school’s blood drive and a youth football camp.

Northern Lehigh

Cameron Taylor Kates

A 6-0, 275-pound offensive guard and defensive tackle, he ranks 35 out of 144 students. He is an honor roll student and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity wrestling and SADD. He has a second degree black belt at Emerald Dragon Karate, and instructs children and teens in reaching goals through the martial arts.

Northwestern

Lucas Pharon Metzger

A 5-10, 175-pound center and defensive end, he ranks 15 out of 188 students. He is an honor roll student and is ranked in the top ten percent of his class. He participates in varsity track, is the Science National Honor Society president, and serves on the executive council. He is a member of the United American Mechanics Lodge, Knights of the Golden Eagle Lodge, National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Ontelaunee Rod & Gun Club.

Robert Melville Schippers

Kole Stephen Rodrigues

A 5-11, 180-pound wide receiver and defensive back, he ranks 26 out of 111 students. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, a class officer, and participates in varsity baseball and basketball. He is a member of the Environmental Club, FBLA, the Gridiron Club, and was a football captain. He volunteers with Special Olympics as an in-school tutor, also volunteering at a youth football camp, the local soup kitchen, and the food drive.

Parkland - Zachary Sechrist Bauer

A 5-10, 185-pound linebacker, he ranks 47 out of 743 students. He an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, the PALS Club, German Club, and the varsity powerlifting club. He serves his church as a youth group leader and sound/ visual technician for the worship band. He volunteers as a youth football coach, and also volunteers with nonprofit, Living the Dream. He is also a certified scuba diver.

Pen Argyl

Tyler Dean Minnich

A 5-11, 183-pound kicker and punter, he ranks 21 out of 105 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He participates in varsity tennis, is president of student government, editor of the school newspaper, and a yearbook staff member. He is president of the Leo Club, Mini-Thon chairperson, a TV studio anchor, member of the principal’s 90-Percent Club, and has performed peer mediation for four years. He serves on his community’s park board and is active in his church’s youth group.

Jack Edmund Gardner

A 5-10, 195-pound linebacker and fullback, he ranks 51 out of 375 students. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He is the historian for the FBLA student organization. His work includes landscaping and pet sitting. His community activities include serving as a Veteran’s Day tribute volunteer and an officer of his church youth group.

Brendan Josef Kearns

A 6-2, 220-pound linebacker and tight end, he ranks 87 out of 422 students. He is an honor roll student and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity baseball, the band, is a math tutor, and a member of the EPC student athletic council. He is a bagpiper, performing with three brothers in a family band at veteran’s parades and special events. He volunteers at nursing homes visiting and performing for the elderly, attends various fundraisers, and serves his church as a lector, altar server, and in the weekly soup kitchen.

Pocono Mountain East

Matthew Efrain Bruno

A 6-1, 275-pound offensive tackle, guard and defensive nose guard, he ranks 114 out of 316 students. He is an honor roll student, National Honor Society member, and earned second team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity wrestling and is a member of the Varsity Club. He has participated in the Light of the World Church Youth Group and Salt and Light Ministry since 2012, and performs 20-plus hours of community service each week.

Pocono Mountain West

Jon-Anthony Carlo Giuffrida

A 5-9, 250-pound offensive and defensive lineman, he ranks 22 out of 444 students. He is an honor roll student and earned first team all-conference honors. He participates in varsity wrestling, baseball, and the weightlifting club. He volunteers as a bell ringer with the Salvation Army, the Tobyhanna Little League, and is active in his church.

Salisbury - Alexander Kubinec

A 6-0, 210-pound running back and inside linebacker, he ranks 27 out of 159 students. A 6-0, 175-pound quarterback, he ranks 68 out of 385 students. He is a high honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. He participates in varsity baseball and basketball, is a member of the Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and is his school’s representative on the EPC Student Athlete Character Council. He is active in his church and helps coach youth sports.

Wilson - Michael Joseph Fabian

Jon Schnaars

A 6-3, 210-pound wide receiver, he has a 3.517 GPA majoring in business management. He is a two-time academic All-American, including being a first team selection in 2015, a National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy semifinalist, and a member of the ESU Business Honor Society. He was selected to the AP Little-American First Team, the AFCA All-American First Team, and led Division II in receptions (114), yards (1,610), and touchdowns (22). He has served the ESU Breakfast With the Warriors for five years, been a Salvation Army bell ringer for five years, and participated in the Monroe County Head Start holiday party for two years.

Kutztown University

Chad Barton

A 6- 210-pound quarterback, he has a 3.55 GPA majoring in business administration and finance. He graduated Cum Laude in the fall 2015, is a four-time PSAC Academic Scholar Athlete, and was selected second team PSAC East quarterback. He volunteers with the Kutztown Optimist Club, Fools Run, Special Olympics, Be the Match, Bone Marrow Drive, and the Homecoming Clean-Up Program.

Lafayette College

Dan Dellovade

A 6-1, 255-pound fullback, he has a 3.04 GPA majoring in neuroscience. He is a dean’s list student and was a member of the National Honor Society at Moon High School. He is the chairperson of the GoFundMe account to raise money for the 2015 Kirchhoff Challenge for ALS. He volunteers with Easton’s Third Street Alliance, the Easton Senior Center, Read Across America, the S.T.E.A.M. Camp, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank.

Lehigh University

Chris Ruhl

A 6-4, 240-pound tight end, he has a 3.74 GPA majoring in mechanical engineering. He is a deans scholar, a 2015 Academic All-Patriot League selection, and was selected to the 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. He is a member of the Student Athlete Leading Social Change (SALSC) organization and was Abington High School’s 2012 scholar athlete. His interests include all Philadelphia sports teams.

Moravian College

Anthony Orlando

A 5-10, 180-pound safety, he has a 3.75 GPA majoring in sociology. He has been a dean’s list student every semester, selected to the Academic All-Conference Team, and the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. He volunteers with Special Olympics, the Bone Marrow Drive and Read Across America. He is also active in the community.

Muhlenberg College

Bryan Auvil

A 6-4, 284-pound offensive tackle, he has a 3.975 GPA with a major in chemistry/ pre-med. He was a first team academic All-American in 2014 and 2015, and also the Centennial Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014 and 2015. He was selected first team All-Centennial Conference in 2013 and 2014, and second team in 2015. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and volunteers with the College EMS. He was Emmaus High School’s 2012 Scholar Athlete.
