Student rep gives report

Student representative Josephine Steidinger gave her report to the Northwestern Lehigh School Directors during their Jan. 17 meeting.

She told the board the Leo Club raised more than $500 for Meals on Wheels by making and selling 100 jars of cookie mixes.

The Science Club hosted the Tiger Invitational Feb. 13 and came in 10th out of 37 teams.

SkillsUSA, during the first week of February, had many Northwestern students placing: Gavin Mengel, first, precision machining; Cassidy Shupp, first, early childhood care; Nick Baer, first in welding; Caitlynn Lucas, second in health occupation, basic health care skills; Brittany Miller, second, health occupation, medical terminology; Kylee Sanchez, second in health care occupation, nurse assisting; Evan Karpyn, second, precision machining technology; and Brandon Bergen, third in welding.

First place winners will compete in April at Hershey.

The wrestling team earned the Colonial League and District XI AA Team Duals Silver Medals coming in second to Saucon Valley in both tournaments.

They qualified for Team State Tournament but fell to Southern Columbia.

Quentin Bernhard and Jarret White each secured 100 wins for their careers.

The girls basketball team qualified for the Colonial League Tournament, won the quarterfinal round against Salisbury and were defeated in the semifinals.

Erika Thomas scored her 1,000th career point. The girls are scheduled for the Quarterfinal round of the District XI AAA playoffs against Central Catholic.

The boys basketball team fell one victory shy of qualifying for the District XI AAA playoffs.

Brady Mengel broke a single-game record for the most three pointers in a game by sinking eight against Catasauqua.

The high school musical, “Annie Get Your Gun,“ will be performed at 7 p.m. March 3-5 and at 2 p.m. March 6.

The debate team is in the semifinal round of the Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Debate Association tournament.
