The Bertsch, Hokendauqua, Catasauqua Watershed Association (BHCWA) again is having a scholarship contest for high school seniors residing within the boundaries of the watershed.
Applicants are asked to write a minimum 750-word essay to be judged on content, topic development, grammar and spelling. The essay should answer the following request: “Define a healthy watershed. What are the ecological, economic, community and personal benefits of a healthy watershed?”
The winner of the scholarship essay contest will receive $500.
The essay and completed application can be sent to BHCWA Scholarship Contest, 3870 Kreidersville Road, Northampton, 18067, by April 15.
Founded in 2009, the association strives to promote the stewardship, protection, enhancement and restoration of all the tributaries to the Lehigh River existing within the watershed.
Its vision is to be the region’s leader and chief advocate for conservation, inspiring residents, businesses and local governments to value their natural resources, engage in conservation best management practices and work collaboratively with BHCWA to protect and restore the region’s watersheds and water quality.
BHCWA is a part of Watershed Coalition of the Lehigh Valley, a group of like-minded organizations dedicated to outreach and education, resource and information sharing, and advocacy on key issues critical to water resource health in the Lehigh Valley.
