Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Leslie S. Richards issued the following statement on the passing of former Pennsylvania Highways Secretary Robert G. Bartlett.

“We at PennDOT express our condolences to Secretary Bartlett’s family on his passing. Secretary Bartlett led the Pennsylvania Highway Department under Governors William W. Scranton and Raymond P. Shafer at a time when Pennsylvania was working hard to build the interstate system.

“His success set the stage for the network of more than 1,800 miles of interstate highway we take for granted today. Under his leadership, the Pennsylvania Highways Department was regarded as a national model.

We at PennDOT remember him today as we continue to build on his legacy of excellence.”
