Kutztown University grad dies following crash
A Slatington woman has died from injuries sustained in a crash just before midnight Feb. 19 in Washington Township.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said Nicole Marie Gruber, 24, of 3935 East Grant St., a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead 1:28 a.m. Feb. 20 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem Campus.
State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, say the crash occurred around 11:55 p.m. along Rextown Road, about a half-mile south of Mountain Road, in Washington Township.
Joshua Moser, 25, of Slatington, was driving the vehicle northbound, traveling through a right curve when the vehicle left the road and went onto the berm where it struck an embankment.
The vehicle then re-entered the road and began rolling before coming to final rest partially in the road and partially on the front lawn at 8756 Rextown Road, on its roof.
During the crash, Gruber was ejected from the vehicle. She was airlifted by medical helicopter to St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain HIll, where she was pronounced dead.
Moser and another passenger, Clark Knoblauch, 25, also of Slatington, were taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Police say Gruber was not wearing a seat belt. Moser and Knoblauch were wearing seat belts.
The roadway was closed for several hours, police say.
Gruber, a 2009 graduate of Northern Lehigh High School, was also a 2013 graduate of Kutztown University earning a degree in communications.
An executive assistant and program administrator for Insulation Distributors Inc., Bethlehem, she also worked part time for Target, South Whitehall.
She was the daughter of Kyle D. and Debra A. (Schive) Gruber of Slatington.
