Eagle Scout Tucker Bogac honored for work at Wild Cherry Park

Eagle Scout Tucker Bogac was honored at the Feb. 18 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting.

Bogac, a member of Troop 352, was responsible for planning and installing distance markers at Wild Cherry Park.

Macungie Ambulance Corps Operations Manager Christopher Greb spoke to the commissioners about the responses from 2015. There were 3,482 calls for assistance. This is an increase of 190 calls from 2014. It is an all-time record for the organization. In addition, there were 30 special operations incidents which provided CPR/AED and first aid training for over 500 individuals. The Macungie Ambulance Corps also participated in dozens of community events.

Macungie Ambulance has been in operation for 60 years and 2016 marks the 10th year of providing advanced life support.

There are two employees in the administrative area who have been with the corps for 25 years. Martha Herring and Ann Schoch were recognized for their service. They are responsible for every aspect of administration such as billing, human resources and regulatory compliance.

Greb is part of the national panel at three American Heart Association “Chest Pain Coordinator Boot Camps.” The Macungie Ambulance Corps served as a model for coordinating between local EMS and area health networks for the care of cardiac patients. The corps was highlighted as an example to follow.

Commissioner Ben Galiardo mentioned the growth of the corps. “You must be doing the right thing,” Galiardo said.

Greb is preparing for the increase in activity with the new shopping center. He has increased staffing with hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

There are two locations where the corps resides-- one is behind the Buckeye Tavern and the other is at the Wescosville Fire Station.

Several residents residing on Mill Creek Road attended the meeting to report problems with speeding on their road. Although difficult to patrol due to the narrowness of the road, it was suggested to post a speed board which is somewhat effective to curtail speeding. The speed board also monitors times of speeding which can assist in checking for speeders.

A representative from Waste Management is requesting assistance with the new Covered Device Recycling Act. It now costs money to recycle old televisions, monitors and other electronic equipment. Waste Management is concerned televisions and other objects will be left along roads or disposed of by other illegal methods. The township will write a letter of support for Waste Management and request better methods for disposal of these items.

There is a survey request on the website for the Southwestern Lehigh County Comprehensive Plan. Commissioners said it is important for all residents to complete this survey as it covers surrounding communities as well. To participate in this survey, visit http://www.lowermac.com/home-page.

The township will be advertising for a township engineer, either in-house or a firm.

It was suggested to check for legislative credits for active emergency responders in the form of tax relief.

Tru-Green has been chosen to begin treatment on ash trees to combat the borer insect.
