The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor invites the public to find a way to give back to the non-profit organization working to connect the D&L Trail and sustain the National Canal Museum.
D&L Volunteer Kick Off Days will be held at the Jim Thorpe Train Station 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 5 and at the National Canal Museum in Easton 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 12.
All ages and volunteer interests are encouraged to attend for any duration of time to learn more about the D&L and how to get involved.
Volunteers are as diverse as the work they do for the D&L and the National Canal Museum.
Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:
•Trail maintenance/field work: trail tenders, trail patrol, canal structure maintenance, planting and gardening
•National Canal Museum/education: docents, field trip educators, archives assistance
•Administrative support: writing/editing, membership and mailing, cartography, grant writing
•Social media: photography, experience sharing, original artwork, blogging
•Public outreach: event promotion, development, flyer and brochure making, marketing
•Events: “Get Your Tail on the Trail,” dinner auction, luncheons, National Trails Day
•D&L Heritage Half Marathon: runner’s packets, set up and clean up, water/food distribution, safety/parking
