Basketball teams advance to Eastern Pennsylvania Conference league playoffs

The Allentown Central Catholic High School boys basketball team finished the regular season by claiming the last spot in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference league playoffs and advancing to district playoffs.

The girls basketball team also made it to the EPC playoffs and districts.

The Central Catholic dance team performed at almost every home basketball game for the boys, as well as some of the girls games and concluded their performances with the end of the regular season.

At the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc., state competition in Hershey Jan. 29 and 30, the coed cheerleading team placed eighth in the preliminary round Jan. 29. The team then returned Jan. 30 to advance through the semi-finals and finish sixth overall in the finals.

Team members dedicated their season to Alayna Velez, who died in a car accident in August, 2015. The win was an outstanding and meaningful accomplishment for a team that has suffered and worked through so much.

This year Central hosted the Lehigh County Honors Band, a collaboration of students and directors from high school bands across the county. The concert was held Feb. 20.
