LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Road crew, 1, snow, 0

Weisenberg Township Roadmaster Tony Werley says snow is a dirty word.

He told supervisors at their Feb. 11 meeting the last snowstorm tested the mettle of his road crew, but in the battle with the elements, the road crew won and cleaned up the roads exquisitely.

The board commended Werley and the crew for their excellent work handling the snow.

Prior to the regular meeting, supervisors had a public hearing on the ordinance changing the height restriction in certain areas of the township.

As there was no one in the audience to speak either for or against the ordinance, the board adopted it into law.

Morgan Hills major subdivision, Wertman Road, was represented by David Lear of Lehigh Engineering.

The revised preliminary plan shows 17 lots ranging from 1 acre to approximately 3 acres.

Supervisors gave approval to the plan.

PennDOT, anticipating the removal of the Route 863 bridge over I-78 next year, will post truck restriction signs on certain roads.

Signs limiting trucks will be placed at Route 100 and Lyon Valley and Claussville roads in Lowhill Township.

Signs will also be placed at Main and Church streets in Fogelsville and Old 22 and Adams Road in Upper Macungie Township.

Weisenberg Township will have signs placed at Old 22 and New Smithville Road, Route 863 and Lyon Valley Road and Route 863 and Seipstown Road.

Resident Gerry Rusinko made his contribution to the truck discussion by noting his concern on the truck traffic on Route 863 and Siegfriedale Road coming from Route 222.

Fire Chief Brian Carl informed everyone that the next hoagie sale for the fire company will be starting March 3.

Order sheets will be available at the township building.

Carl also told the board there was a recent mailing by Kutztown Area Transport ambulance service that stated that corps would cover part of Weisenberg Township.

This is not true as the entire area of Weisenberg is served by Cetronia Ambulance Corps.

All 911 calls from Weisenberg Township are directed to the Lehigh County Control Center.

Carl said there were people shoveling snow onto township roads.

This practice, along with throwing grass clippings on the road when mowing, is illegal under the motor vehicle code.

Anyone who is in the practice of doing either of these could be fined.

Electronics recycling will be scheduled for residents for some date in spring.

The board said a Saturday would be the best day to have this event.

Carl will look into the matter and report at next meeting.
