Corporal designation added, Civil Service changes made

Salisbury Township has added the rank of corporal to its police department.

The ordinance to approve the ranking was approved by a 5-0 vote at the Feb. 11 township meeting. Commissioner Joanne Ackerman made the motion to bring the ordinance to a vote and Commissioner James Seagreaves seconded it.

The rank of corporal joins those of patrolman, sergeant and detective.

The intent of adding the ranking is to augment supervision of police shifts in the township.

Commissioners also voted 5-0 to approve an ordinance concerning Civil Service Commission rules and regulations. Commissioner Vice President Robert Martucci Jr. made the motion to bring the ordinance to a vote and Ackerman seconded it.

The first change allows a 120-day deadline from the date of application for a police officer applicant enrolled in a police training program to obtain Act 120 certification.

The second change requires an applicant to undergo and pass a polygraph test.
