Upper Milford Township road crews won high praise at the Feb. 4 supervisors meeting for the snow removal work during the recent blizzard. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, not so much.
Residents Phil Casey and Francis Caputo, Citizens Fire Company Chief Joe Sherman and supervisors all praised the efforts of the township crews.
“Public works did an outstanding job,” Casey said.
Caputo said the residents of Mink Estates, where he lives, all appreciate the department’s efforts.
And Sherman thanked them for helping get fire crews to a chimney fire during the storm, as well as to respond to other emergencies.
Supervisors Chairman George DeVault commented when he went to work Jan. 25, Upper Milford’s roads were in a lot better shape than those in neighboring townships.
But Casey charged PennDOT did such a poor job plowing state roads, the township crews had to put in extra work opening the major arteries.
He said the township should either stop plowing roads that are PennDOT’s responsibility or start billing the agency for the work the township does.
“As long as you continue plowing their roads, they’re never going to stop,” he declared.
“I second that,” DeVault said.
Resident James Krippe also criticized township residents who leave their vehicles out in the road, hindering the township’s plowing. He suggested the code enforcement officer should send warnings to the offenders.
