EAST PENN AND SALISBURY SCHOOLS
Princesses, pirates and champion spellers will be among characters featured in area student theater productions in the East Penn and Salisbury Township school districts in the coming months.

The Emmaus High School Drama Department will present the Rodgers and Barer musical “Once Upon a Mattress” March 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 with a preview performance for Gold Card members March 8. The musical is a retelling of the fairy tale “The Princess and The Pea.” There is a cost for tickets and tickets are available online at www.eastpennsd.org/ehs/theater/ and at the school office.
Allentown Central Catholic High School will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” March 31, April 1 and April 2. There is a cost for tickets. Visit the school website at http://www.acchs.info.
Salisbury High School students will be featured in a production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” March 3, 4, 5 and 6. The musical tells the story of a middle school spelling bee and won two Tony awards in its original Broadway run. There is a cost for tickets. Students at Eyer Middle School will present “The Pirates of Penzance Jr.,” an adaptation of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta for younger players and audiences, March 17, 18 and 19.
Lower Macungie Middle School students will present “Crazy for You,” a musical featuring the songs of George and Ira Gershwin, March 26, 27 and 28.
The Lewis Carroll classic “Alice in Wonderland” will be told by the Jefferson Elementary School Drama Club players in “Follow that Rabbit” scheduled April 16 and students at Willow Lane Elementary will present the production “Fairy Tale Follies: Follies Through Time” May 13.
Several other district schools will feature student musicians and singers in spring concerts including Alburtis Elementary School, 7 p.m. May 16; Lincoln Elementary School, 7 p.m. May 12; Macungie Elementary School, 7 p.m. May 5; Shoemaker Elementary School, 7 p.m. May 18 and Wescosville Elementary School, 7 p.m. May 11 in the East Penn Area School District and Salisbury Middle School, 7 p.m. May 12; Harry S Truman Elementary School, 2 p.m. May 5 and Western Salisbury Elementary School, 2 p.m. May 11. Admission to most of the concerts is free.
Students in seventh and eighth grades at St. Thomas More School will be featured in a musical production at the school arts festival May 13.
Students at The Swain School will present several arts events.
Students in sixth through eighth grades will present “Alice in Wonderland” 7:30 p.m. March 18 and 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 19. Fifth grade students will present “Magic Tree House: Ghost Tales for Mr. Dickens” 7 p.m. April 16 and 2 p.m. April 17. Student art work will be featured in an art show April 27 through the 29 and the annual spring concert will be held 7 p.m. May 12. For information, visit the school website at www.swain.org.
