Budgets approved by school board

Whitehall-Coplay School Board approved the budgets for the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21, Lehigh Career and Technical Institute and Lehigh Carbon Community College for the 2016-17 year at its meeting Monday night.

The general operating budget for CLIU is in the amount of $823,241, the same as last year. The district’s share, based on student enrollment, is $60,177, a decrease of $2 from last year.

The LCTI general fund budget is $25,607,300, an increase of 3.57 percent over last year’s budget. The district’s share, based on enrollment, is $1,679,493. This is a decrease of $5,270 from last year.

LCCC’s budget is in the amount of $39,482,620, an increase of 2.1 percent. The district’s share, also based on enrollment, is $537,752, a decrease of $928 from last year.

In other business, Whitehall-Coplay School District Superintendent John Corby presented two Wilson footballs the NFL gave to the district for having two alumni, Dan Koppen and Matt Millen, who played in the Super Bowl.

“It’s an honor we had two great athletes and two great kids that went on to successful colleges and careers,” Corby said. “Between the two of them, there are seven Super Bowls.”

Corby said the footballs will be put on display at Whitehall High School.

The board also approved the Class of 2016’s graduation date for 7 p.m. June 6 at Stabler Arena, on the campus of Lehigh University, Bethlehem.
