In other business, Borough Manager Chris Boehm highlighted the need for the review and update of borough office safety procedures.
Currently, the staff assumes the borough residents, when expressing their concerns about borough related business, will remain civil. Following the biggest snowstorm on record, a borough resident was witnessed, multiple times, in the office, shouting about his dissatisfaction with the snow removal process. Although the staff reported the shouting subsided after a few visits, the need to understand and utilize an office safety procedure has been identified. Implementation will be researched and revisited in the near future.
On a positive note, Boehm mentioned the many compliments, addressed to the snow removal crews, which were posted on the borough Facebook page.
Borough Solicitor Patrick Armstrong, introduced a workers’ compensation insurance package for review. Boehm discussed the facets of becoming a part of an inter-municipality trust agreement where members pool the funds for workers’ compensation. This has become quite popular among townships and boroughs in recent years. The proposed, with a two year commitment, is expected to save the borough $14,725 a year.
For the next step in the South Western Lehigh Comprehensive Plan, a postcard asking for participation in an online survey will be sent out to random borough residents. Results will be compiled and available the fourth week of February.
The traffic light at the intersection of Route 100 and West End Trail is being reviewed based on the engineers report regarding the proposed increase in traffic following the continued development of Grandview Crossings in the area. The borough is looking for emergency preemption– a turn lane on the southbound side and an agreement for the timing of project completion.
