LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Student of the week

Q: What grade are you currently in?

A: I’m currently a senior at Salisbury High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject is English because I’ve always been drawn to books and poems. As I’ve grown, I’ve learned to love writing as much as I love to read.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I placed second in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science state competition and I had a poem published in a book a few years ago.

Q: What extracurricular activities are you involved in, both in and out of school?

A: I was on the varsity girls tennis team for four years. I’m treasurer of student government, a member of the Class of 2016 Advisory, a member of the school’s chorus, an editor for the high school’s newspaper, The Falcon Courier and I’ve participated in the high school’s theater productions for three years. I write a column for the Salisbury Press about the high school during the school year and I work at Putt U Miniature Golf in the spring and summer.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: My goal is to study journalism after high school, hopefully at Boston University.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge was so far?

A: My biggest challenge so far was probably to keep my school work, personal life and extracurricular activities balanced and to keep my grades where I wanted them to be throughout high school.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered as the nice girl who was always willing to help out anybody who needed it. I try to be friendly and helpful to everyone and it would be really great to be remembered for that.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My mom, dad and little brother live at home with me, but I also have two older sisters, one of whom is married with two daughters and my grandparents live very close by so I see them as often as I can.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I think I look up to my older sister Steph the most. She’s smart and independent and she travels a lot. I really want to be like her when I’m in my 20s.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: I’d say you should prioritize because it is hard to focus on just one thing when you have so much going on in high school. Do not lose sight of what is important to you. And while good grades are important, make sure to make time to have fun with friends and family.
