Have a blast at Emmaus’ SnowBlast festival
Emmaus SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival, sponsored by the Emmaus Arts Commission, will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 6.
This is the 10th year for the festival which features community-wide art-related activities and includes ice sculpting, artist demonstrations, outdoor games, a community art project, the SnowBlast art show and sale, music, fire pit warming stations, restaurant and store specials and more. There will be spectator bleachers on Triangle Park to view ice sculpting, the Ice Princess performance, the Burning Hearts Fire and Light performance, martial arts demonstrations, an Asian drum performance and other activities.
There will be an appearance by the SnowBlast Ice Princess 12:30 p.m. at Triangle Park, 2:45 p.m. at SnowBlast headquarters (formerly Impulse Boutique, 346 Main St.) and 3 p.m. at Emmaus Public Library.
New this year: art show, art project, artist demonstrations and art exhibit at SnowBlast headquarters, 346 Main St.; Art Walk Palette (visit a minimum of 10 participating businesses listed in the event schedule, get your palette initialed, drop it off at SnowBlast headquarters and be entered in a drawing to win prizes). Each of the participating venues offer art activities. Palettes may be found at participating stores and venues. There will be SnowBlast After Parties at 2nd Street Tavern and Vargtimmen King Koffee. The Emmaus Winter Farmers’ Market will be held 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 14, 28 and March 13 at the KNBT parking lot, 235 Main St. For information, visit www.emmausmarket.com.
All senior citizens over the age of 55 are invited to the Emmaus Senior Citizens meetings at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets 1 p.m. Fridays. The February programs are Feb. 5: Terry Rooney, speaker; Feb. 12: Fred Arnold, musician; Feb. 19: Bob Kahle, musician and Feb. 26 is game day. For information, call 610-966-4273.
Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St., Feb. 1 and 16 (note that due to the Feb. 15 PresidentsDay holiday, the regular council meeting held on Mondays will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16). The Emmaus Historical Society museum, 218 Main St., will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for its Winter Wonderland display Feb. 6 during the borough’s SnowBlast festival. The displays include winter scenes in Emmaus dating back to the Great Blizzard of 1888. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. The museum is regularly open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
The society’s monthly meeting will be held 7 p.m. Feb. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets. Bill Barto will present a program, “The Emaus Band Goes to War – 1861.” The Emaus Band marched to Doylestown and enlisted in the 104th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment and served as the regiment’s military band during the Peninsula Campaign. The special programs planned by the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., Feb. 6 during the SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival are drop in Storytime 10 a.m., drop in winter crafts 11 a.m., Storytime with Buddy the Bunny 1:30 p.m. and Storytime with the SnowBlast Ice Princess 3 p.m.
The library offers an adult coloring club 7 p.m. every Monday night. The library supplies the material. Also Feb. 15, Presidents Day, the library will hold a special creative play program for youngsters 2 p.m.
Staff from the office of Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, will host the first mobile office visit 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 29 at the library.
The winter film discussion series continues in February with a discussion of “Five Easy Pieces” starring Jack Nicholson. The viewing and discussion program will be presented by Stephanie Gardner 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 25. Gardner is a Lehigh Valley native and New York City-based filmmaker, playwright and theatre director.

St. Ann’s Knights of Columbus will hold a Lenten Seafood Dinner 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at St. Ann School cafeteria, 435 S. Sixth St. The meal includes a choice of fried cod, fried shrimp or baked haddock or fried combo, fries, clam chowder, coleslaw, drinks and an assortment of homemade desserts. The children’s meal is fish or mac-n-cheese, fries and applesauce. There is a cost. Children 5 and under eat free. Take out is available. Proceeds support Knights of Columbus’ charitable causes.
