State Police Beat

State Police Troop M Bethlehem say a 51-year-old woman reported one of her trees was uprooted sometime between 9:30 a.m. Dec. 29, 2015, and 6 a.m. the next day at 6367 Route 873, Washington Township.

Police say the woman related she had an ongoing issue with neighbors pertaining to her trees.

Interviews and available surveillance failed to provide additional leads, say police.

This investigation was terminated, police say.

Barry L. Silfies, 67, of Slatington, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris when it collided with a 2006 Sterling Acterra box truck driven by Thomas M. Mcelroy, 36, of Bethlehem, around noon Jan. 15 on Mountain Road, Washington Township.

The car was traveling west on Mountain Road, south of Deer Road and the box truck was stopped in the westbound lane with its flashers, when it was conducting a left turn into the driveway at 3540 Mountain Road when the car attempted to pass on the left, police say.

According to police, the car struck the truck in the driver’s side causing moderate damage to the driver’s side of the truck and front end of the car.

The car and truck came to a final rest at the point of impact, police say.

Both drivers, who were wearing their seat belts, were not injured.

Silfies was charged with a traffic violation.

State Police Troop M Bethlehem say William Francis Lyons IV, 28, of Schnecksville, was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was allegedly found slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle while it was running 6:19 p.m. Dec. 19, 2015, in the Northwestern Lehigh High School parking lot, 6493 Route 309, Heidelberg Township.

Police allege upon conducting a standard field sobriety test, they determined he was impaired due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Charges were filed with District Judge Rod Beck, Slatington.
