Driveway swales need repair

Washington Township supervisors were told Jan. 5 that an ambulance went into a driveway and the swale was so deep the rear of the vehicle hit the ground.

Something has to be done, said Joel Merkel, fire chief at Friedens Fire Company.

Supervisors said they would put something in the newsletter.

Matthew Szuchyt, a representative from the office of state Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th, said he was at the meeting to help if the township has any concerns. There were none presented at the time.

Supervisors passed a resolution to apply to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for a $10,000 recreation grant.

The grant needs to be applied for by one of the municipalities in the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority as the authority cannot apply.

Keith Strohl was named to the property maintenance appeals board.

Resident Ed Ziegler commented to the board nobody shows up for meetings.

He then asked if the board was considering the creation of a local police department because that is the rumor he is hearing.

Supervisor Josh Friebolin said there has been no discussion about forming a local police department.
