Nothstein, Hartzell sworn in as Lehigh County commissioners

Lehigh County swore in two new commissioners at the board’s Jan. 4 reorganization meeting.

Taking the oath of office were newcomer commissioners, Republican Marty Nothstein, of Lowhill Township and Democrat Dan Hartzell, of South Whitehall Township.

Also sworn in during the reorganization meeting were re-elected commissioners, Republicans Amanda Holt, of Upper Macungie Township and Brad Osborne, of South Whitehall Township.

Former Commissioner Vic Mazziotti was not re-elected by the voters to serve another term.

Osborne was unanimously re-elected chairman for 2016 by his colleagues. Michael Schware was elected vice chairman.

In an email to The Press, Osborne said he is looking forward to again serving as chairman and following through with a number of initiatives undertaken last year.

Osborne said in 2016 he hopes to positively conclude discussions on a new or renovated Cedarbrook Nursing Home. He also plans to review the county government compensation program and build on the board’s record of fiscal discipline.

“While Lehigh County is in good hands and the finances are healthy, we can accomplish more in terms of long-range planning and investments in the community if our two branches of government coordinated efforts and moved forward together,” he said. “ Our victories can be shared accomplishments and credit.”

He also noted a strategic planning session with the board will be held early in the year to identify opportunities, as well as focus on efforts in 2016.

“I will continue my efforts to open up a productive relationship with the executive and administration,” Osborne added.

The board meets 7 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Lehigh County Government Center, 17 S. Seventh St., Allentown.
