Fifth graders at Lincoln Elementary School worked several weeks, in conjunction with the Coco Foundation, on a service learning project to collect toys for the children’s oncology units of local hospitals for the holidays.
The project incorporated fifth grade reading, writing, speaking and listening standards students learned while planning and implementing the project.
Students designed boxes to collect the toys, created a bulletin board to recognize students/families who donated and wrote persuasive pieces read during daily announcements, among other learning activities.
Toy collection efforts continued at “Let’s Play Books!” in Emmaus and at an Emmaus youth wrestling match at Emmaus High School to add to the Lincoln donations.
The Coco Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides resources and support to individuals, families and friends impacted by pediatric cancer.
