Country butcher featured speaker at historical society meeting

Happy New Year!

The Upper Milford Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Jan. 28, in the township building.

Harry Waterman from Waterman’s Meat Market in Hereford will share the experiences of a country butcher through the years. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served. For information, contact Upper Milford Historical Society President Neil Moser at 610-966-4376.

If you enjoy soup on the cold winter days of January and February, don’t miss St. Peter’s Union Church’s soup sale, with pick-up 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 22 and 9 to 11 a.m. Jan 23 at the church, 7863 St. Peters Road. To be sure of getting your favorite, call the church at 610-966-3030, by Jan. 18, to place your order. Homemade soups which will be available in pints or quarts include chicken pot pie, chicken corn noodle soup, chili, ham and bean soup and vegetable beef soup.

Continuing the soup theme, St. Peter’s will join many other local churches in observing the Souper Bowl of Caring Feb. 7, the day of the National Football League Super Bowl. Demonstrate your care for your less fortunate neighbors by dropping a donation into the soup bowl as you leave worship that Sunday.

The Upper Milford Youth Association’s annual general membership meeting will be held 8 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Upper Milford Township building. All UMYA members are welcome to attend.

UMYA has announced all spring sports registrations opened Jan. 1 including registration for baseball, T-ball, softball, soccer and micro-soccer. Go to umya.org for more information.

Upper Milford Western District Fire Company will host its next all you care to eat breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 7. For information, call the fire company at 610-966-3541 or Carol Shade at 610-966-3902.

The Ladies Auxiliary meets 7 p.m. Feb. 2. New members are always welcome.

Vera Cruz senior citizens next meet 1 p.m. Jan. 7 and 21 at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.

Both Upper and Lower Milford township supervisors held their reorganizational meetings Jan. 4.

Upper Milford supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. Jan. 21. The year-end meeting was held Dec. 30, 2015, when supervisors adopted a final 2016 budget, with no tax increase.

Upper Milford Township officials have advised residents the Lehigh County Planning Commission is hosting a meeting to discuss the Southwest Lehigh County Long Range Development Plan 7 p.m. Jan. 14, at the Lower Macungie Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road, Macungie. The public is encouraged to attend and contribute ideas.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in Upper Milford.

The Upper Milford Planning Commission meets 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1.

The recreation commission meets 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18.
