Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: It is hard to choose, I enjoy many of them. However, if I had to select my favorite, I would say physics. I have a propensity toward math and the hard sciences. On top of that, I am privileged to find many good friends in my physics classes and Mr. Ohl as my teacher. They make the class that much more pleasurable.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: In October, I was named one of six National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists in Emmaus High School. Additionally, I have a varsity letter for tennis and four years on the Principal’s Honor Roll. I received recognition for my excellence in French with the French Honor Society induction. I am also a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and National Honor Society.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I was class president from my freshman year to my junior year. I currently participate in academic team, the tennis team, math league, the computer science club, Science Olympiad and Emmaus Chorale. Every weekend, I also teach a competition math class for sixth to ninth grade students at Northampton Community College. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering. I volunteered at the DaVinci Science Center last year.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: Immediately out of high school, I plan to attend college and major in a combination of business and engineering. After college my goal is to hopefully build a start-up business that combines and involves both technology and business. I also hope to stay involved with my community, get married and start a family.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: My biggest challenge has probably been time management. It is often difficult to schedule everything. However, I have gotten better with time.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I hope to be remembered for my commitment to my class as class president.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: I have a dad, Canzhong, a mom, Olivia and one sister, Cindy.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: In my immediate environment, I look up to my father. He grew up with very little opportunities in an obscure rural town in China and worked his way to Tsing Hua University, the top university in China, focusing on semiconductor engineering. He taught me, with enough work and determination, I can actively shape my future. On a greater scale, I look up to President Obama and Elon Musk for being strong leaders and great role models in their respective fields.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Just one thing, work hard play hard.
