The Pennsylvania SPCA has announced a reward of $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for attacking a young emaciated pit bull with a hatchet in Allentown.
On Nov. 2, the young pit bull named Sally, was picked up by police in downtown Allentown, taken to the Lehigh County Humane Society and then cared for by the Allentown Animal Clinic, South Whitehall.
At the time, Sally was emaciated, covered in scratches and suffering from a traumatic wound to the head, which veterinarians believe may have been caused by a hatchet or small ax.
An investigation into who committed this crime is ongoing, though at this time no leads have been uncovered.
The PSPCA is able to offer $1,000 for information leading to an arrest through the generosity of two anonymous donors.
“It is quite clear to us the injuries to this pit bull were not inflicted by accident, but instead as a blatant act of animal cruelty,” said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “We would like to see the offender brought to justice, and are calling on the public for help in this matter. We are hopeful that someone saw something, and encourage them to come forward.”
Following treatment, Sally was recuperating at the Lehigh County Humane Society, Allentown, and expected to make a full recovery. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information in this case should call the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Cruelty Hotline at 866--601-SPCA.
