New members are sworn in to school board

Whitehall-Coplay School Board held its reorganization meeting Dec. 1 and elected Wayne Grim to the post of president. Grim succeeds Tina Koren, who served as president for the past year.

The newly elected members of the board are Owen Eberhart, Patty Gaugler, Tina Koren, Arthur Taschler and Bill Leiner. Three board members, Robert Kolb, Eileen Abruzzi and Wayne Grim, will seek election in the next cycle.

Kolb swore in the new members, who then chose Grim as president. Grim will take board member committee preferences and prepare committee assignments to be posted at the next regular meeting.

Kolb was elected to serve as vice president, a post he held last year as well.

With all members seated, there was still a vacancy on the board. Board members voted to appoint Lloyd Schafer to the vacant position, who has experience serving on the board. He will serve out the remaining two-year term of the seat vacated by Josef Fragnito.

Regular board meetings are scheduled 7 p.m. the second Monday of every month; committee meetings are 4 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month.

In other action, Taschler, board treasurer, made a variety of end-of-the-year adjustments.

Superintendent John Corby approved the resignations of Steven Berg, Michael Sommer, Erik Kloiber and Dennis Roman.

Corby appointed Nicole Charles as fifth-grade long-term substitute and Heather Mastropiere as a paraeducator replacing Austin Berg. Sandra Reilly was approved as a co-adviser for Science Olympiad.
