A Macungie man, who had been a coach for a Catholic youth organization basketball team, has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl multiple times in 2000.
Daniel B. Eddinger, 38, of the 2000 block of Rolling Meadow Drive, is charged with aggravated indecent assault, a second-degree felony; corruption of minors, a first-degree misdemeanor and indecent assault, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin said in a press release dated Nov. 23 the teenager recently told authorities about the alleged assaults.
Eddinger was arraigned in the Lehigh County Central Booking Center and released on $40,000 unsecured bail. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
An affidavit of probable cause alleges:
In fall 1999, the girl met Eddinger when she played on a girls’ basketball team for Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Upper Saucon Township where Eddinger coached the boys basketball team.
At the time, the girl was 13 years old and Eddinger was 22.
Eddinger allegedly befriended the girl during the basketball season and the summer of 2000.
Eddinger also became the girl’s math tutor. Eddinger allegedly was supposed to tutor the girl at his parents’ house in Upper Saucon Township.
Eddinger allegedly did not tutor the girl but kissed, fondled her and engaged in sexual acts during the time scheduled for tutoring.
The girl told police Eddinger drove her to and from basketball practice on one occasion and came into her bedroom, where he had her perform a sex act.
As in every criminal case, the fact an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation and the defendant, Daniel B. Eddinger, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
