On Nov. 6, Superintendent Dr. Michael Schilder released a statement regarding the investigation of the bullets dropped in a hallway of Emmaus High School, which led to a 4-hour-long lockdown and day off from school. Schilder said two students had been removed from the school. In order to protect the rights of the individuals and the ongoing police investigation, Schilder said no further information could be given at the time of the release.
Principal David Piperato released a statement Nov. 19 informing parents, students and staff members a student in EHS has been diagnosed with Pertussis, or whooping cough. Parents who have children that have demonstrated symptoms of coughing or coughing fits are encouraged to monitor the cough and see a physician. If a child is not coughing but suffers from asthma, the release informed parents the child may be put on an antibiotic as a precautionary measure and still remain in school.
Several students participated in the Pennsylvania Math League competition Nov. 17 at Bloomsburg University. Emmaus Team 1, which consisted of seniors Sameer Lal, Zhuohong He, Darsh Patel and Vishnu Baskar, placed first in the Quizbowl competition and second in the Brainteaser competition. Team 2 won fourth place in the Brainteasers.
In the spring of 2016, EHS will host German exchange students for two weeks. Students interested in hosting a German exchange student and traveling to Germany should contact Mrs. Pribicko in room 333 or Mrs. Laubner.
Orders for junior class T-shirts are now being taken in room 335. The sale will end Dec. 1. Long sleeve and short sleeve shirts are available. The order forms may be picked up in rooms 335 or 235.
On Nov. 20, the EHS Orchestra held its winter concert, featuring a variety of music genres and ensembles. In addition to the full orchestra, the sinfonia and chamber ensembles performed to an appreciative crowd.
