Parkland Garden Club celebrates 60 years

Parkland Garden Club celebrated its 60th year with a recent luncheon at Brookside Country Club, Wescosville.

The theme of the event was “ 60 Years and Still Blooming.”

Keeping in the style of garden club members in 1955 when the Parkland Garden Club was organized, members past and present attended the celebration decked out in hats and gloves.

After the meal, members engaged in a “Parade of Hats” strolling the perimeter of the room as Barbara Grosso, PGCF District II/III director; Trish Mowen, president of the Bethlehem Garden Club; and Becky Short, president of the Allentown Garden Club, judged the hats.

Joni Dankel was the winner, with judges saying her hat best “complemented the outfit.”

The program featured a PowerPoint presentation of photos of Parkland Garden Club highlights over the past 60 years.

The celebration concluded with singing of the Parkland Garden Club’s song, which was written by the club’s first president, Mrs. Anthony Shay.

Each member left with a comprehensive booklet of “60 Years of History and Memories” of the Parkland Garden Club.

Ten past presidents were in attendance, including the last surviving charter member, Dorothy Miller.

Parkland Garden Club meets 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at Jordan Lutheran Church, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield. Refreshments are served at 7 p.m.

There is a guest fee to attend.
