Giving thanks to seniors

East Penn School District invited senior citizens to a Thanksgiving lunch Nov. 17 at Emmaus High School, Eyer Middle School and Lower Macungie Middle School.

Community Liason Laura Groh welcomed guests to EHS and introduced Superintendent Dr. Michael Schilder who said he was glad to have the seniors for lunch.

Director of Student Services Dr. Thomas Mirabella provided the invocation and introduced the EHS Esquires Jazz Band under the direction of Ryan Harrington.

This was the first time the jazz band used their 14 new stands, made by trumpeter Ryan Taranto as part of his Eagle Scout project for Boy Scout Troop 131.

Food Services Director Paul Vlasics said 430 guests were served at EHS, 240 at Eyer and 275 at LMMS.

For the Thanksgiving lunch, Vlasics prepared 350 pounds of turkey, two cases of cranberry sauce, 50 pounds of green beans, 40 pans of filling, dinner rolls and 20 sheet cakes.
