Emmaus celebrates an ‘Old-Fashioned Christmas’
Have an ‘Old-Fashioned Christmas’ in Emmaus.
Emmaus will kickoff the holiday spirit with its annual ‘Old Fashioned Christmas’ celebration Dec. 5, coordinated by Emmaus Main Street Partners. Many of the activities take place at Triangle Park beginning 10 a.m.
The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will host its ninth annual holiday book sale and reception 6 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Room of the library, 11 E. Main St.
The Emmaus Historical Society’s museum, 218 Main St., will be open 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 5. The museum will be decked out with colorful Christmas displays. Emmaus Moravian Church carolers will perform 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4. Children will be invited to make pinecone ornaments to decorate the children’s tree on the Triangle Dec. 5.
‘Old-Fashioned Christmas’ events Dec. 5 include caroling throughout the downtown, storybook readings at Let’s Play Books!, children’s crafts and open houses at the historic houses, screening of “A Christmas Carol” at the Emmaus Movie Theatre, the Main Street Partners cider bar, dance performances, musical presentations and horse and wagon rides in the Triangle Park area. Santa will arrive 4:45 p.m. and the tree lighting will be 6 p.m.
The Emmaus Moravian Church and the Emmaus Historical Society will sponsor a Christmas Walking Tour of historic sites 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 5. The tour is free but registration is required by Dec. 1. Email Andrew Kerstetter at dkerst8602@aol.com.
The 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave., will be decorated in colonial holiday fashion with a fire in the open hearth. There will be warm cider and other holiday treats and tours of the house. Children can craft an ornament. The Friends of the 1803 House will have wreaths for sale.
The Shelter House, 601 S. Fourth St., will hold an open house noon to 4 p.m. during the ‘Old-Fashioned Christmas’ celebration. The historic site will welcome visitors with warmed cider and home-baked cookies, a visit from Santa, children’s craft activities and classical and seasonal selections performed on the viola by Brianna Bortz.
The Emmaus Arts Commission will host a photography contest 6:15 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Community Center for the Arts on the second floor of borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St. The deadline for entering the contest is Dec. 1. For information, visit www.Emmausarts.org.
During the Dec. 5 celebration, the Emmaus Public Library will hold a holiday story time 10 a.m. and holiday crafts 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Liberty Lane Singers will perform 11 a.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will host story time 2 p.m.
The library will be closed Dec. 23, 24 and 25 for the holiday. It will close 6 p.m. Dec. 31.
Mark your calendar: the library will host a special story time for all ages with a guest reader 4 p.m. Dec. 14.
The fun family films are now held Saturdays. The next screening is scheduled 2 p.m. Dec. 12. The adult movie matinee will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 7.

St. Ann Knights of Columbus will hold a 50/50 cash bingo Dec. 2. Doors open 7 p.m. in the St. Ann school cafeteria, 435 S. Fifth St., and games begin 7:30 p.m. The cost includes 20 games, a light dinner, drinks and dessert.

Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 21 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. Borough offices are closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2016 for the holidays.

All senior citizens over the age of 55 are invited to the Emmaus Senior Citizens meetings at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets 1 p.m. Fridays. The December programs are Dec. 4: a film and Dec. 11: a musical performance by Willow Lane Elementary School students. This is also cookie exchange day. December 18 is the group’s holiday party.
