Whitehall High School freshman Ian Reese recently won an award for School Bus Safety Week.
Students throughout the state were recognized for creating posters in the 2015 School Bus Safety Poster Contest.
The theme for the contest was “Bully Free Zone!,” stressing the importance of having a bus and bus stop free from harassment and bullying, so students can be safer while waiting for and riding the bus.
Reese received the second-place award in division 3 for his poster. He completed the project while an eighth-grade student at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School.
He said he discovered the contest through his teacher, Amanda Bankos, and created the poster on his own.
“It was pretty cool,” he said about participating in the contest and receiving an award.
Besides being recognized for his achievement, Reese also got to visit the governor’s residence.
“It was cool,” he commented on visiting Harrisburg.
Reese received a trophy, a certificate and a congratulatory letter from state Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th.
High school Principal Christopher Schiffert and Assistant Principal Heather Hampton congratulated Reese for his outstanding accomplishment.
