Van Parys Memorial Road to be dedicated on Saturday

State Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, along with Van Parys family members and friends, will dedicate a portion of Route 309 as the Lance Corporal Brandon Van Parys Memorial Road.

The official designation will be between Northwest Road and Long Court, and Mosserville Road and Mountain Road, and is the result of Act 21 of 2015, legislation sponsored by Day.

Van Parys, a Marine, was killed by a rocket-propelled grenade in Anbar province, Iraq, on Feb. 5, 2007. At the time, his unit was attempting to secure an area along the Euphrates River.

A 2005 graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School, he was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The dedication ceremony will take place noon Nov. 14 near the entrance of Route 309 and Northwest Road, in front of the Northwestern Lehigh High School, 6493 Route 309, New Tripoli.
