Pantry needs donations for Thanksgiving

In preparation for Thanksgiving and the upcoming holiday season, Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry is accepting instant stuffing mix, boxed mashed potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, sauerkraut and gravy.

In addition to specialty items, the pantry always needs boxed cereal, canned tuna and chili, hearty soups, household cleaners, toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, tea bags, coffee and pet food.

New socks in child and adult sizes may be dropped off at both New Tripoli Bank locations and ESSA Bank for the Blessing Shop.

The pantry will be accepting donations to stock shelves 9-11 a.m. Nov. 17 and 28.

Lehigh Valley Zoo’s Winter Light Spectacular will ignite Nov. 14.

Featuring nearly 1 million lights, this year’s light spectacular is guaranteed to be bigger and brighter than before.

This year’s experience includes state-of-the-art musical light shows featuring Star Wars, Frozen and Minions, as well as the Bing Crosby classics.

Don’t forget the theme displays, treat stations, holiday movies, cozy fire pits, giant snow globes and a real live reindeer.

Guests can also get a professional photo with Santa at the Bison Auditorium.

Winter Light Spectacular runs 5:30-10 p.m. WednesdayS through Sundays until Jan. 3, 2016.

The event will be closet Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.

The zoo is also seeking volunteers to participate in the Winter Light Spectacular.

Groups of carolers are welcome to fill the twinkling tree-lined paths with songs of Christmas cheer.

Join Christ’s Church at Lowhill, 4695 Lowhill Church Road, for a Vacation Bible School family event.

The Wonder of Christmas, 3-6 p.m. on Dec. 12, is open to families and features dinner, stories, games and crafts followed by a Christmas Carol Hymn Sing and Lowhill Lights of Wonder. An ice cream social will top off the night with sprinkles and Christmas spirit.

Christ’s Church is also offering Lowhill Lights of Wonder, a 30-minute indoor light show featuring over 10,000 lights synchronized to music.

Each show cycles approximately every 40 minutes 5:30- 8:30 p.m. Dec. 11, 12, 19, 22 and from the 26-29.

Dec. 11 and 19 shows will have a 20-minute hymn sing at 5 p.m.

Dec. 24 will feature showings at 6:45 p.m. and following the Christmas Eve service.

The show is free. Donations will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
