A Halloween tradition returns to Alburtis

Risha Bower, of Alburtis, remembered the good times she used to have at the Halloween parties at Alburtis Area Community Center when she was little, but there had not been a party for many years.

Bower missed those times and decided it was time to do something about it.

She spoke with her sisters, Cheryl Reppert and Candice Guth, and the community center personnel about reviving the tradition.

They loved the idea so Bower got busy.

Bower secured donations from the community center and area businesses and she and her sisters made plans to hold the party after annual trick or treat on Halloween night.

Generous donations came in for everything and organizers decided the Halloween event would be free. Organizers spread the word throughout the community, inviting residents to the holiday event.

Organizers decorated the community center and activities included a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, face painting, pumpkin decorating, raffles and refreshments.

After trick or treating in the borough, many residents headed to the community center.

Bower was delighted by the turnout.

“ I might do it again next year,” Bower said.
