At the Oct. 26 curriculum and technology meeting held at Lehigh Carbon Community College, board members learned demographic numbers for students in the district for the 2014-2015 academic year.

A total of 1,578 students were in the district. Two students were listed as American Indian/Alaskan Native, there were no Asian/Pacific Islander students, 62 students were black, 193 were Hispanic/Latino, 96 were multi-racial, 1,182 students were white, 42 were Asian and one was Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.

In 2014-2015, 407 of the 1,578 students were listed as economically disadvantaged students – 139 at Harry S Truman Elementary School, 34 at Western Salisbury Elementary School, 93 at Salisbury Middle School and 141 at Salisbury High School.

In 2014-2015, there were 53 students who were English Language Learners. There were 189 students in learning support, 36 students in emotional support and 115 students identified as gifted.

A concern for the district is always the mobility of students: students who are in and out of the district during the year. In 2014-2015, there were 369 students, or 23.4 percent of students in this category. At HST, there were 139 students, WSE 56 students, SMS 72 students and SHS 108 students who moved in and out of the district during the school year.

Regarding charter schools, 49 Salisbury students were enrolled in charter schools: 15 in cyber schools and 34 in brick-and-mortar charter schools.

Currently, there are five students in cyber schools and 41 in charter schools.

In 2014-2015, 12 students were home-schooled.

For the 2015-2016 school year, as of Oct. 1, there are 1,607 students enrolled in the district.

There are 397 students at HST, 236 at WSE, 382 at SMS and 592 at SHS.
