Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania recently announced local Girl Scout Alexa Iannace, of Emmaus, was selected by Girl Scouts of the USA as one of the 2015 National Young Women of Distinction for her Gold Award project, a documentary on child pornography.
The national award is given to 10 girls annually.
This award showcases Iannace’s leadership over a project that addressed a global issue.
Using her documentary as a platform, Iannace presented her research to district attorney’s offices, university students and members of law enforcement on the realities of child Internet pornography.
Both the Kappa Delta Foundation and GSUSA each generously provided a $5,000 college scholarship to all of the 10 National Young Women of Distinction, including Iannace.
Iannace was honored at a national recognition ceremony hosted by Girl Scouts of the USA and was featured in a streaming lecture event with her fellow National Young Women of Distinction award winners Oct. 7 in New York City.
