Emmaus Lioness Club hosts scarf shower
The Emmaus Lioness Club will host a scarf shower as one of its community service projects 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 7 on Triangle Park. The hand-knitted scarves will be hung on the park fence and anyone is welcome to take what they need. The shower is taking place the same day as the Lincoln and Jefferson elementary schools’ annual coat drive. Rain date for the scarf shower is Nov. 8. The Lioness Club meets 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month at the Superior Restaurant.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7. There is a cost; children under five years of age eat free.
St. Ann Knights of Columbus will hold the following events in November: a 50/50 cash bingo 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in the school cafeteria, 435 S. Sixth St.; a pancake breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Nov. 15 in the school cafeteria and a Miller/Keystone Blood Bank drive 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 22 in the school gym. The Emmaus Garden Club meets noon Nov. 10 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St. Fred Buse, local master gardener and Allentown bird watcher, will give a photo presentation of the daily feeding cycle of winter birds in a suburban setting. Please note the date change.
Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Nov. 2 and 16 in council chambers, 28 S. Fourth St. Borough offices are closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 26 and 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Emmaus Kiwanis Club is holding its annual fruit sale. The sale includes 2/5 or 4/5 bushel boxes of navels, tangelos and red grapefruit. The Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets. District Judge David Howells, Jr. and former Allentown assistant police chief will present a program on Homeland Security.
The society’s new museum, 218 Main St., will be open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays.
The society members are working on the second phase of the museum’s capital campaign which includes a porch restoration project. To help fund the project, the Mercantile Club of Emmaus has agreed to donate 10 percent of the food bills from diners served Oct. 29, Nov. 5, 12 and 19 to the Emmaus Historical Society. Highlights for the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St., in November include a new explorers club for grades one through three 4 p.m. Wednesdays. The club includes a variety of books and activities. Beekeeper Samantha Schmell will share her life as a beekeeper 1:30 p.m. Nov. 7 (there are no live bees included).
The library hosts a program, “Here Be Dragons!” 2 p.m. Nov. 30 while schools are closed. All ages are welcome for this creative play which celebrates dragons.

Thanksgiving is an opportune time to consider donating to the Emmaus Food Bank to ensure others not so blessed as we may enjoy a bountiful harvest. Emmaus’s food bank, Groceries PLUS, is located at Bethel Bible Fellowship, 418 Elm St. The bank’s urgent needs include boxed potatoes, rice, cereal, canned meats and soups. Monetary donations can be mailed to the church and made payable to Groceries PLUS.
Daylight Saving Time ends 2 a.m. Nov. 1. Remember to turn back your clocks Oct. 31. It’s a good time to check your smoke detectors.
